White Sox place Schultz on 15‑day IL, call up Sandlin

Chicago’s bullpen lost a key arm today when the White Sox placed 22‑year‑old left‑hander Noah Schultz on the 15‑day injured list. The move follows a diagnosis of right‑knee patellar tendinitis that has plagued him since spring training. Schultz’s line sits at 2‑4 with a 5.82 ERA in eight starts, a streak that has rattled the rotation and earlier season again.

Manager Will Venable said the injury will not require an MRI and that Schultz’s recovery should be short. He added that the knee issue likely cost the pitcher control, tallying 22 walks in 38⅔ innings. With Schultz sidelined, the club turned to right‑hander David Sandlin from Triple‑A Charlotte for the team soon again Thursday.

Sandlin, 25, is slated to make his major‑league debut Wednesday against the Minnesota Twins after posting a 0.75 ERA over four starts in Charlotte. Acquired in a winter trade with the Boston Red Sox, his promotion keeps the rotation balanced as the White Sox chase a playoff spot. Schultz’s brief absence will test the squad’s depth for the season ahead.
