The Houston Astros placed right-handed starter Spencer Arrighetti on the 15-day injured list with nerve irritation in his right foot and recalled left-hander Bryan King from Triple-A Sugar Land before Saturday's game against the Chicago White Sox. Arrighetti left Friday's 9-5 win after the first inning, saying he felt pain "on just about every pitch I threw" after hurting the nerve between his third and fourth toe during pregame warmups.

The 26-year-old Arrighetti is 7-5 with a 4.60 ERA in 17 starts. Manager Joe Espada said Arrighetti will fly to Houston to see doctors for further evaluation. The 29-year-old King started the season with the Astros, making 42 relief appearances before being optioned to Sugar Land on July 19 after four rough outings. King is 2-3 with six saves and a 3.40 ERA this season.

King had a 2.03 ERA on July 7 but was tagged for eight runs on 10 hits, including five home runs, over five innings in his next four games. He pitched a scoreless inning in his lone Triple-A outing. Espada said King could be immediately available against Chicago's left-handed hitters. "We're gonna' need him today and tomorrow, so we'll throw him in there," Espada said.
