Cristopher Sánchez etched his name into Philadelphia Phillies history on Wednesday, extending his scoreless innings streak to 44⅔ to break Hall of Famer Grover Cleveland Alexander's 1911 franchise record of 41 innings. The left-hander reached the milestone by working through four full innings, becoming the first pitcher to accomplish the feat since the mound was moved to its current distance in 1893.

Sánchez delivered seven dominant innings, allowing six hits while striking out nine and walking none. The 29-year-old joined Chris Sale as the only pitchers with 45 strikeouts and zero runs allowed over a five-game span. Philadelphia completed a three-game sweep with a 3-0 victory, marking their seventh shutout in May - their most in a single month since July 1951.

The streak places Sánchez among elite company, becoming the sixth pitcher since 1893 to throw seven or more scoreless innings in five consecutive starts, joining legends like Orel Hershiser and Bob Gibson. Sánchez entered the game with a 5-2 record and 1.62 ERA, with the streak dating back to April 30 against San Francisco. The Phillies now have a legitimate ace at the top of their rotation.
