Rangers Put Martin on 15-Day IL With Shoulder Injury

The Texas Rangers placed veteran reliever Chris Martin on the 15-day IL with a right shoulder injury on Sunday. Martin, 40, gave up five runs in 3⅔ innings over four appearances after returning from the IL on July 4 for the same shoulder issue. He has pitched in 16 games this season, going 1-1 with a 9.00 ERA and surrendering 25 hits in 14 innings.

Martin, a 49‑appearance veteran last season, earned two of his 16 career saves and has played parts of 11 major‑league seasons. The injury removes a familiar arm from the rotation, tightening the Rangers’ bullpen ahead of a late‑season stretch.

In the corresponding roster move, Texas recalled right‑hander Emiliano Teodoro from Triple‑A Round Rock. Teodoro, 25, was 3-3 at Round Rock with a 3.76 ERA in 35 relief appearances.

The move leaves the Rangers with a thinner relief corps, but Teodoro’s recent performance suggests the club can plug the gap while Martin recovers. The trade‑up of bullpen depth may prove crucial as the Rangers chase a playoff spot.
