The Texas Rangers bought left‑hander Robby Ahlstrom’s contract and promoted him for Monday night’s clash with the St. Louis Cardinals. Alongside the call‑up, the club recalled right‑hander Luis Cervelo and infielder Cody Freeman from Triple‑A Round Rock. Outfielder Sam Haggerty landed on the bereavement list, while Chris Martin entered the injured list with a right‑shoulder impingement. The move signals Dallas’ push for a deeper rotation.

Ahlstrom, 26, posted a 2.76 ERA over 29⅓ innings in 21 Triple‑A outings this season, earning his major‑league debut. Drafted by the New York Yankees in the seventh round of 2021, he arrived in Texas via the April 2, 2022 trade that sent catcher José Treviño to New York alongside Albert Abreu. Manager Skip Schumaker praised his improved command of the strike zone.

To make room for Ahlstrom on the 40-man roster, left‑hander Robert Garcia moved to the 60‑day injured list after missing 36 games with left‑shoulder inflammation. The Rangers also optioned Gavin Collyer to Round Rock and placed right‑hander Chris Martin on the IL, leaving the bullpen thin while giving the club a left‑handed arm for the series. If Ahlstrom repeats his Triple‑A form, he could become a regular swing‑man.
