Rangers shift roster after Carter lands on IL

Texas placed outfielder Evan Carter on the 10-day IL Friday after he left a game versus Boston with an oblique strain. The 23‑year‑old had been batting .176 with six homers and 21 RBIs in 66 appearances. Carter’s exit followed a diving catch in the fourth inning, prompting the Rangers to shuffle the lineup before the Red Sox showdown.

Infielder Cody Freeman took Carter’s roster spot and started Saturday, marking his first major‑league action since a brief call‑up earlier this month. Freeman had been recalled from Triple‑A Round Rock, where he provided depth after the Rangers lost All‑Star shortstop Corey Seager to a sore arm. Seager, listed day‑to‑day, missed his second consecutive start after a plate‑collision injury.

Rangers also added right‑hander Joe Ross, signing him to a minor‑league deal last month, and optioned Luis Curvelo to Triple‑A. Ross posted a 2.92 ERA in seven outings for Round Rock, offering a potential boost to a rotation that has struggled with injuries. The moves give Texas a modest roster refresh as it battles for a playoff push in the tight American League West.
