The Mets promoted veteran outfielder Tommy Pham on Monday, carving a roster spot as the club reels from a five‑game skid and the loss of Juan Soto to the injured list. Pham, 38, signed a minor‑league deal on March 26 that promises a $2.25 million base salary if he reaches the majors, plus performance bonuses and an April 25 opt‑out.

After reporting to the Mets’ Florida spring‑training complex, Pham logged five Low‑A games for St. Lucie, collecting three hits in 12 at‑bats, a double and three walks. This marks his second tenure with New York; he previously logged a one‑year, $6 million contract in 2023, batting .268 with an .820 OPS before being dealt to Arizona, where he helped the Diamondbacks reach the World Series.

Mets manager Buck Showalter expects Pham to inject speed and left‑field depth for the Los Angeles series opener against the Dodgers. The club has produced nine runs in its five losses, six of them coming in Saturday’s 11‑6 defeat to Oakland, underscoring the urgency for an offensive spark. Pham’s addition gives New York a seasoned bat and defensive flexibility right now.
