Mets Place Star Outfielder Juan Soto on IL After Calf Strain

The New York Mets slid star outfielder Juan Soto onto the injured list Monday after a right calf strain during a run from first to third against the San Francisco Giants. Soto, 27, was forced out at home and removed from the game. An MRI confirmed the injury, mirroring discomfort he felt in July 2022 in the 2022 season. He is expected to miss two to three weeks.

Mets Soto’s calf issue marks the second non‑COVID IL stint in his career and the first since May 2021, when a strained left shoulder sidelined him two weeks with the Washington Nationals. Over the past three seasons he has appeared in at least 157 games, and a hot start last season saw him hit 43 homers, 38 steals and a .921 OPS.

With Soto out, Mets shuffled the left‑field lineup. Jared Young started Saturday and Sunday as the club won both games, while Tyrone Taylor and Brett Baty remain options. Ronny Mauricio was recalled from Triple‑A Syracuse to fill the roster gap, keeping the lineup flexible for the upcoming series against Arizona.

The Mets will start their three‑game set with the Arizona Diamondbacks at Citi Field on Tuesday, moving the first‑pitch time from 7:10 p.m. to 4:10 p.m. ET to brace for cold, windy conditions. Fans will see how the lineup copes without Soto’s power and speed, a key factor in the team’s push for a wild‑card berth this season this season.
