The Cleveland Guardians have agreed to a minor league contract with first baseman Rhys Hoskins, pending a physical. The 32-year-old right-handed hitter will join spring training and compete for playing time at first base and designated hitter. Manager Stephen Vogt expressed excitement about adding Hoskins to a roster that lacks right-handed bats.

Hoskins brings veteran experience after spending the past two seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers, where he hit .237 with 12 home runs in 279 at-bats last season. The Brewers declined their $18 million option on Hoskins following the 2025 season, instead paying him a $4 million buyout that completed a $34 million, two-year contract. If Hoskins makes the opening day roster, he'll earn $1.5 million from Cleveland.

Hoskins will compete with left-handed hitters Kyle Manzardo and CJ Kayfus for playing time at first base. Vogt told Cleveland.com that Hoskins has a chance to make an impact and possibly earn a spot on the team. The addition provides the Guardians with a right-handed power bat to balance their lineup as they prepare for the upcoming season.
