Blue Jays left-hander Mason Fluharty departed Saturday's game against the Athletics after suffering a leg injury from consecutive batted balls. The 24-year-old reliever was struck above the right knee by Jeff McNeil's leadoff single, then took a hit on the inside of the same knee from Max Muncy's comebacker three pitches later.

Manager John Schneider and trainers attended to Fluharty twice before he eventually limped off the field with support from Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and head athletic trainer Jose Ministral. Left-hander Brendon Little replaced Fluharty, who went 5-2 with a 4.44 ERA in 55 games as a rookie last season. Both hits off the Blue Jays pitcher resulted in runs.

The injury raises concerns about Fluharty's availability for the upcoming season after his promising debut. The team lost both scoring opportunities that followed the hits, with McNeil scoring on an infield single and Muncy coming home on a grand slam by Shea Langeliers.
