Dylan Cease to Miss 15 Days with Hamstring Strain

Toronto right‑hander Dylan Cease landed on the 15‑day injured list after a left hamstring strain forced his exit in the fifth inning of Sunday’s loss to Pittsburgh. He limped off the mound, returned briefly to retire Spencer Horwitz, then was replaced by left‑hander Mason Fluharty. Cease yielded two runs on four hits in 4⅔ innings, striking out eight and walking one.

The injury came as Cease struggled to reach five innings for only the second time in 11 starts this season, a rare dip for a pitcher who has logged at least 30 starts in each of the past five years. Only three other Blue Jays—José Berríos, Patrick Corbin and Kevin Gausman—share that durability mark. The hamstring strain is described as mild, but the IL move removes a key rotation piece as Toronto seeks to stay competitive in the AL East.

Cease signed a seven‑year, $210 million deal in December, joining the defending American League champions with expectations of anchoring the staff. His absence tests the depth of a rotation already thin from injuries, and Toronto will need the bullpen and younger starters to absorb the load while Cease rehabilitates.
