Pete Crow-Armstrong needed to be restrained after umpires missed a pivotal balk call in the Chicago Cubs' 2-0 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks. Crow-Armstrong, the National League MVP favorite, led off the sixth with a double and advanced to third. As he appeared to steal home, Arizona starter Eduardo Rodriguez threw a quick pitch, forcing him back.

After the umpiring crew huddled, they ruled no balk occurred. Nico Hoerner struck out to end the inning. Crew chief Alfonso Márquez later confirmed the call was missed, stating, "We just didn't see it." Replay showed Rodriguez stepped off the rubber.

An angry Crow-Armstrong told reporters, "I saw four umpires miss a pretty obvious play." He added, "Their one job is to get calls right... And they didn't." If the balk had been called, the Cubs would have taken a 1-0 lead. Instead, Arizona scored a run in the sixth and added another in the eighth.

Cubs manager Craig Counsell blasted the officiating, stating, "It's obvious to everybody on TV. They missed it." The loss dropped Chicago in the NL wild-card race. Eduardo Rodriguez pitched seven strong innings, striking out nine on two hits.
