Dustin May left his start against the New York Mets after one pitch Wednesday night when he was hit in the upper back by A. J. Ewing's 106 mph line drive.

Ewing's liner ricocheted off May as he attempted to get out of the way, caroming to third baseman David Hamilton for an inning-ending double play. May grimaced while favoring his right shoulder blade area and was surrounded by Brewers infielders for evaluation. After consultation with manager Pat Murphy and an athletic trainer, May threw warmup pitches before exiting the mound.

Robert Gasser entered to retire Francisco Lindor and Bo Bichette on four pitches to end the first inning.
