The Atlanta Braves have signed former NL MVP Andrew McCutchen to a minor league contract, continuing their pursuit of experienced offensive reinforcements. McCutchen, 39, was released by the Texas Rangers in late May after struggling to a .192 batting average over 37 games. He is expected to report to Triple-A Gwinnett.

This move follows the Braves' recent signing of veteran first baseman Carlos Santana to a similar minor league deal. McCutchen, the 2013 NL MVP, brings a career .271 average with 333 home runs and 1,157 RBIs to an Atlanta team currently leading the NL East. His signing comes as the team designated veteran first baseman Rowdy Tellez for assignment.

McCutchen spent his first nine seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates, earning five All-Star selections. He played his final two seasons with Pittsburgh from 2023-25, hitting 13 homers in 2025. The Braves also made a pitching roster move, recalling right-hander Anthony Molina and optioning right-hander James Karinchak.

The Braves are seeking to bolster their lineup as they push for a strong postseason finish. McCutchen's addition provides depth and a potential veteran spark from the outfield or as a designated hitter.
