Veteran outfielder Andrew McCutchen has agreed to a minor league contract with the Texas Rangers, according to multiple reports. The 39-year-old would earn $1.5 million if added to the major league roster, giving him three weeks of spring training to prove his worth.

McCutchen spent the past three seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates, where he debuted in 2009 after being drafted in the first round in 2005. During his nine-year tenure with Pittsburgh, he made five consecutive All-Star teams and won the 2013 National League MVP award. Last season, he hit 13 home runs with 57 RBIs and a .700 OPS in 135 games.

The Rangers enter the season with Wyatt Langford in left field, Evan Carter in center, and Brandon Nimmo in right. However, Carter's injury-plagued 2025 season, when he played just 63 games, creates a need for outfield depth. McCutchen's right-handed bat could also provide a natural complement to left-handed hitter Joc Pederson at designated hitter.
