Angels Make Roster Moves Amid Struggles

The Los Angeles Angels made significant roster moves, optioning struggling left fielder Josh Lowe to Triple-A Salt Lake and placing third baseman Yoán Moncada on the 10-day injured list due to right knee inflammation. The Angels promoted infielder Donovan Walton and outfielder Wade Meckler from Salt Lake to fill the gaps.

Lowe, acquired from Tampa Bay in a winter trade, hit just .184 with a .546 OPS, 5 homers, and 14 RBI in 45 games. The 28-year-old's performance suffered after his mother's death in March. Manager Kurt Suzuki called his season "a grind," noting the team wants Lowe to work without pressure.

Moncada, signed to a $4-million deal, batted .189 with a .605 OPS, 3 homers, and 10 RBI in 41 games. His knee injury has particularly affected his right-side hitting, where he went 1 for 21 with 12 strikeouts. The Angels' infield defense and offense take immediate hits with these moves.
