Angels' Soler Out 10 Days With Oblique Strain Amid Slumping Season

The Angels placed veteran slugger Jorge Soler on the 10-day injured list Saturday due to a strained left oblique. Soler had already been scratched from Friday's lineup against the Dodgers with hip tightness and exited Wednesday's game versus Colorado. The 34-year-old has struggled offensively this season, batting .220 with nine home runs and 33 RBIs through 58 games.

Soler's injury adds to a frustrating year that included a suspension for charging the mound against Braves starter Reynaldo López in April. Both players initially received seven-game bans, though Soler successfully appealed to reduce his suspension to four games. He appeared in only 82 games last season while dealing with lower back inflammation, showing durability concerns persist.

To fill the roster void, Los Angeles reinstated first baseman Nolan Schanuel from his ankle injury and inserted him into Saturday's starting lineup. The team also placed outfielder Gustavo Campero on the IL with a right hand fracture and designated catcher Omar Martinez for assignment, shaking up their bench depth.

Soler's absence removes a power bat from a lineup that ranks in the bottom third in several offensive categories. With the Angels hovering around .500, they need healthier contributions from their corner outfield spots to stay competitive in the AL West race.
