WNBA CBA Talks: Plum Calls Revenue Share 'Win' Amid Strike Threat

Las Vegas Aces guard Kelsey Plum described the WNBA's revenue sharing offer as a 'significant win' for players, though negotiations continue ahead of the May 8 season opener. Plum, WNBPA first vice president, said the players' union should keep negotiating but called a potential strike 'the worst thing for both sides' since it would eliminate revenue for everyone.

The league and players' union remain far apart on revenue sharing terms, with the WNBPA seeking 30% of gross revenue while the WNBA offers 70% of net revenue. The players' union argues the league's proposal amounts to less than 15% of gross revenue, while the league claims the union's demands would cause hundreds of millions in losses. The WNBPA authorized its executive committee to call a strike 'when necessary' in December.

Getting the league to agree to any revenue sharing system marks progress, Plum said, as players' salaries will now grow alongside league revenue. The WNBPA has until March 10 to finalize a term sheet or risk schedule impacts. 'I've always been someone that's focused on the gain, not the gap,' Plum said, noting the dramatic improvements since she entered the league.
