Felix Rosenqvist won the 2026 Indianapolis 500 by 0.0233 seconds, the narrowest margin in 110 years of the race. The 34-year-old Swedish driver never had an oval victory until Sunday, when he passed David Malukas on the final straight to claim his first win in this event.

The week had been shadowed by tragedy. Alexander Rossi cracked his wrist and ankle in a crosswind practice crash, and NASCAR legend Kyle Busch died Thursday. Rosenqvist had finished fourth in 2022 and 2025, then spent three winless seasons at Arrow McLaren before joining Meyer Shank Racing.

His career arc made the victory resonate. After drifting through a losing stint, he joined a team with only one prior IndyCar win. Sunday he rewrote his legacy with the closest finish ever recorded. Malukas, 24, sat on the pit wall weeping after finishing second by barely an eye blink.

"I still can't believe it," Rosenqvist said, wreath around his neck, fire suit soaked in milk. "If you know where I was, then you can't. I can't."
