Coastal Carolina's Bold Throwback Uniforms Lead Week 7

Some college football uniforms are classic and clean, while others are boisterous and bold. This week, Coastal Carolina went the second route. On Friday night, the Chanticleers will go "Back to the '90s" with throwback-style threads featuring color and detail galore, including a graffiti-font nameplate and confetti and multicolored triangles on the jersey base. The look mixes teal, pink and neon green and yellow for a memorable result.

The best part has nothing to do with the uniforms themselves. As noted by ESPN's Bill Connelly, Coastal Carolina didn't even have a football team in the 1990s. The Chanticleers' first season was in 2003.

Plenty of other schools will also wear notable looks this weekend. Cal will honor the Grateful Dead with helmets featuring a skull emblem, a lightning bolt center stripe and the band's dancing bears. Boston College will keep its maroon and gold scheme but add "Soar High" on the jersey collar and an alternate eagle head emblem on the shoulders.

UTEP let fans vote on its helmet decal, and "Paydirt Pete" won. Utah is wearing its "icy white" look for a second straight week after rolling past Kansas 41-24. Kentucky, led by first-year coach Will Stein and off to a 5-1 start, will combine a black helmet and pants with its classic white and blue jerseys.
