PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp confirmed a proposed two-track tournament model targeting 2028 implementation, directly citing LIV Golf competition as catalyst for change. The restructuring aims to restore competitive meritocracy that Rolapp says the tour abandoned with smaller fields and no-cut events.

Under the plan, Track One would feature 15-18 events plus majors and The Players Championship, with the top 90 golfers in season-long points retaining their status. Track Two players would compete for roughly 20-30 promotion spots annually, though players cannot drop between tracks during seasons.

Eighteen-time major champion Jack Nicklaus raised concerns about scheduling, noting too many signature events are bunched together. The tour is attempting to create open weeks before majors and avoid three consecutive tournament weeks, though Nicklaus remains unsatisfied with current arrangements.

Rolapp emphasized the complexity of implementing both competitive and commercial changes, suggesting an official announcement could come later this summer pending approval from the policy board and ongoing discussions with the Future Competition Committee.
