PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp unveiled a sweeping vision for the tour's future, proposing a two-track system with relegation and promotion based on merit. Speaking ahead of The Players Championship, Rolapp detailed plans for a revamped schedule starting in late January, featuring 21-26 elevated events in major markets and a postseason potentially incorporating match play for added drama.

Rolapp emphasized that the Future Competition Committee, led by Tiger Woods, is still finalizing plans that could reshape professional golf by 2027 or 2028. The proposed structure would move away from no-cut events toward 120-man fields with 36-hole cuts, creating consistency for fans and partners while elevating competitive standards. The tour aims to open each season with marquee tournaments on iconic courses, potentially at venues like Torrey Pines or Pebble Beach.

The second track would operate through a promotion and relegation system similar to English soccer, allowing golfers to earn spots in bigger events through performance. Rolapp stressed that this isn't about reducing events but making each one matter more. The enhanced postseason could feature win-or-go-home moments throughout three playoff events, though the Tour Championship's format and location remain undecided as the committee continues its work.
