NCAA Investigates Cincinnati Over Sorsby's Betting

The NCAA has opened an inquiry into the University of Cincinnati concerning former quarterback Brendan Sorsby's tenure with the program. This investigation follows Sorsby's permanent ineligibility ruling by the NCAA this spring due to thousands of impermissible sports bets placed over four years. Sorsby spent two seasons with the Bearcats before transferring to Texas Tech.

The NCAA's probe into Sorsby's time at Cincinnati comes after a significant legal dispute over his eligibility. Cincinnati coach Scott Satterfield and a university spokesperson declined to comment on the inquiry. A statement from Cincinnati indicated continuous conversations with the NCAA since the initial reports of Sorsby's wagering and asserted that no athletics official was aware of his actions.

Sorsby, who also played at Indiana, threw for 5,613 yards and 45 touchdowns in two seasons as Cincinnati's starter. He was ruled permanently ineligible in May after admitting to placing approximately $90,000 in bets. His betting history at Cincinnati included 165 impermissible bets totaling at least $38,000 in 2024, with several wagers placed on Cincinnati men's basketball. Despite this, no evidence suggests Sorsby bet on Cincinnati football games.
