Cincinnati Defends Handling of Sorsby Gambling Investigation

Cincinnati strongly denied claims from Brendan Sorsby's agent that the university knowingly played the quarterback despite his gambling violations. Ron Slavin argued the school should face scrutiny for allegedly being aware of Sorsby's betting activity for two years without reporting it to the NCAA.

The dispute centers on August 2024 alerts from Prize Picks regarding Sorsby's fantasy sports participation. Cincinnati investigated immediately and accepted the quarterback's explanation that he was denied site access and hadn't placed wagers. The school closed the matter after providing mandatory gambling education, consistent with their policy of using Prohibet monitoring technology.

Now Cincinnati is suing Sorsby for breach of contract following his transfer to Texas Tech, seeking over $1 million in damages. Meanwhile, Sorsby has admitted to placing more than 9,000 bets over four years, including wagers on Indiana while he was a reserve player there. However, no evidence suggests he bet on games he played in or used inside information.

Texas Tech announced Monday that Sorsby is leaving the program and will likely enter the NFL supplemental draft. The conflicting narratives between the university and agent highlight ongoing tensions over how schools handle gambling violations and transfers.
