Sorsby Challenges NCAA Gambling Ban

Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby filed an injunction against the NCAA seeking reinstatement for the 2026 season. Sorsby, who has a clinically diagnosed gambling disorder, argues the NCAA is hypocritical in its gambling stance while profiting from the industry. The filing claims the NCAA has "weaponized his condition" and abandoned its obligation to promote student-athlete well-being.

Sorsby, represented by prominent attorneys including Jeffrey Kessler, is currently ineligible due to NCAA gambling violations. He placed thousands of bets on sports, including small wagers on Indiana football games he didn't play in. Despite offering to accept a two-game suspension after completing treatment, the NCAA has delayed a decision, leaving his eligibility status unresolved.

The timing creates an impossible bind for Sorsby, ranked as ESPN's No. 1 transfer portal player who could earn over $5 million at Texas Tech. With the NFL supplemental draft deadline approaching June 22, he faces choosing between college eligibility or risking a lost year. Texas Tech also suffers, unable to plan around their projected starting quarterback.
