Companies Sue LIV Golf Over World League Claim

WGG and PGL filed a London lawsuit on April 16 demanding $210 million$630 million from LIV Golf, PIF, Golf Saudi and others, alleging breach of confidence and unlawful conspiracy.

The complaint traces the league idea back to Andy Gardiner in 2009, refined by WGG founders Richard Marsh and Jed Moore. It claims the defendants stole business plans, contracts and financial models, and that Marsh and Moore breached fiduciary duty by helping launch LIV Golf in June 2022.

Litigation notes that LIV Golf’s format mirrors the PGL’s shotgun starts, 54‑hole events, knockout team rounds and four‑player franchises, calling it a “bald facsimile.” The suit also details the PIF’s فرادة $5 billion into LIV before withdrawing funding on April 30.

The case could redefine how intellectual property is protected in sports leagues, forcing the PIF to seek court approval for any future ventures that mirror the PGL blueprint.
