Max Scherzer passed Walter Johnson for 10th all time in strikeouts, fanning four against the Phillies on Saturday to reach 3,516. Jacob deGrom struck out nine over five innings in Texas’ 5-1 win over Baltimore, his first start after telling the Rangers he did not want to be traded. Jackson Jobe made an “electrifying” return from Tommy John surgery, leading the Tigers to an 8-0 win over San Francisco in his first big league outing in more than 14 months.

Streaks and Standings

The Dodgers snapped a seven-game losing streak by edging the Diamondbacks 2-1 in 10 innings at Chase Field. The Red Sox saw their 10-game winning streak ended by the Athletics in a 7-3 loss. The White Sox, despite a four-game skid, remain in first place and are calling up two pitching prospects from Triple-A Charlotte.

Injuries and Returns

Mariano Rivera returned to the field at Yankee Stadium for Old-Timers’ Day, one year after tearing his Achilles tendon at the same event. Phillies right-hander Aaron Nola left Saturday’s start against the Blue Jays in the sixth inning after a line drive bruised his right knee. Braves manager Walt Weiss was ejected for arguing a “terrible” balk call against Chris Sale, who was charged with not declaring his pitching windup with a runner on base.
