Injury Updates

The Athletics fear Nick Kurtz could miss the rest of the season with a thumb injury. Giants third baseman Matt Chapman will undergo season-ending abdominal surgery. Reds ace Hunter Greene is out until at least 2026 after UCL surgery. The Marlins placed Kyle Stowers on the IL with a hamstring strain. Blue Jays pitcher Trey Yesavage had knee surgery but may return this season, while Jameson Taillon was also placed on the IL. In a separate development, Taillon will undergo an MRI on his forearm after leaving his start. Yankees Rodón and Bellinger are closer to returning. Rangers pitcher Nathan Eovaldi landed on the IL with elbow inflammation. Diamondbacks shortstop Geraldo Perdomo exited early with knee soreness. Brewers shortstop Cooper Pratt was placed on the IL with a hamstring strain, testing the team's infield depth. Phillies right-hander Aaron Nola left his start after a line drive bruised his knee. The Mets placed reliever Devin Williams on the IL with a shoulder strain, and the Rays put Griffin Jax on the IL with elbow discomfort. Phillies reliever Caleb Kilian landed on the IL with an oblique strain.

Roster Moves

The Brewers brought back Bryse Wilson on a one-year deal after designating him for assignment. The Diamondbacks added Michael Soroka from the IL and signed Zack Littell to a one-year contract. The Padres signed outfielder Austin Hays, who homered in his first at-bat. The Rangers selected the contract of Jonah Bride and optioned Alejandro Osuna. The White Sox are calling up two pitching prospects from Triple-A.

The Dodgers snapped a seven-game losing streak by edging the Diamondbacks 2-1 in 10 innings. Earlier, the Dodgers rallied to win 6-5 in Tarik Skubal's rocky home debut. The Tigers' Jackson Jobe earned his first big league win after Tommy John surgery, striking out nine in five innings in an 8-0 victory. Jacob de Grom tossed a gem, striking out nine over five innings in the Rangers' 5-1 win; de Grom had pushed to stay with the team before the trade deadline (full story). The Red Sox saw their 10-game winning streak snapped by the Athletics, losing 7-3 (here). In a bizarre sequence, a 16-minute delay led to a belated run in the Red Sox's 2-1 loss to the Blue Jays. Braves ace Chris Sale was ejected after a balk controversy, but the Braves still won 2-1. Mets reliever Kodai Senga earned his first save, but rookie Carson Benge tossed the ball into the crowd.

A's shortstop Jacob Wilson set an MLB record with his 111th consecutive errorless game. Blue Jays starter Max Scherzer moved into 10th place all time in strikeouts (3,516). Mariano Rivera returned to the Yankees' Old-Timers' Day after tearing his Achilles last year (story). The White Sox retired Ozzie Guillén's No. 13 jersey. Two-time All-Star Tim Anderson announced his retirement after 10 seasons.

White Sox's pope hat giveaway drew a major crowd amid the election of Pope Leo. U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal asked MLB to ban betting promotions like the one featuring Bryce Harper.
