Bangladesh dominated Australia on day one of the first Test, despite Steve Smith benefiting from an odd technology reprieve, as Bangladesh's control left the Tigers in control. Moises Henriques said helping Portugal qualify for their first men's T20 World Cup would be "cricket nirvana", as Henriques chases that dream. England have scrapped their midnight curfew, with only wins now needed to repair reputational damage; the curfew was scrapped.

Cricket – The Hundred

Welsh Fire and MI London were eliminated from The Hundred after losing their final group phase matches; Welsh Fire eliminated and MI London failed to reach the knockouts. Despite a drastically improved season, Welsh Fire again missed the Eliminators, leaving players and fans to reflect on what comes next for the franchise.

European Athletics & Aquatics

At the European Championships in Birmingham, Great Britain's Matthew Hudson-Smith made history as the joint-most decorated man in European Championships history by winning 400m gold on home track; this historic gold highlights the night. Keely Hodgkinson reached the women's 800m final after rival Audrey Werro suffered a dramatic fall; Werro was later reinstated, and this final follows the drama. In the European Aquatics Championships in Paris, British teenager Filip Nowacki claimed a dramatic gold in the men's 200m breaststroke final; Nowacki's gold shone for GB.
