Lyft is cementing its foothold in London by agreeing to acquire Gett’s UK arm, the city’s leading black‑cab app. The transaction, slated for completion in the coming weeks, brings Gett’s extensive driver network and enterprise clientele under Lyft’s umbrella. This move follows a $175 million purchase of Freenow and a recent buy of TBR Global Chauffeuring.

Gett commands a sizable share of Greater London’s licensed black‑cab market and supplies corporate, public‑sector and venue clients. Lyft’s EVP of global growth, Jeremy Bird, said the acquisition expands coverage of London’s full ground‑transport ecosystem. Integrating Gett will position Lyft as the dominant app for black‑cabs across the capital for commuters and tourists alike today.

Lyft’s strategy mirrors earlier moves: a $175 million Freenow deal and a Glasgow‑based luxury‑ride firm. The company also supports Santander Cycles in London. With Gett, Lyft will fold its enterprise‑heavy model into a broader ecosystem, while keeping drivers’ credentials intact. The purchase is projected to have minimal impact on Q1 2026 earnings for investors and regulators globally.

Gett’s UK team will transition into Freenow once the deal closes, consolidating operations under Lyft’s platform. CEO Thomas Zimmermann of Freenow praised the move, noting the driver expertise that shines through London's toughest taxi exam. Lyft’s bid signals a broader ambition to introduce autonomous rides in London later this year with Baidu, aligning with its vision.
