Uber has acquired Blacklane, a Berlin-based chauffeur hailing startup, to strengthen its position in the luxury travel market. Founded in 2011, Blacklane connects travelers with premium chauffeur services across more than 60 countries and 500 cities. The deal, subject to regulatory approvals, is expected to close by the end of 2026.

Blacklane operates as a liaison between independent local chauffeurs and customers seeking upscale transportation. The company offers on-demand rides, airport pickups with flight tracking, long-distance city-to-city travel, and hourly bookings. This acquisition follows Uber's recent launch of Uber Elite, an invite-only luxury service, suggesting a broader strategy to capture high-end riders.

While Uber hasn't disclosed acquisition terms, the move positions the company against competitors like Wheely, which recently debuted in New York City. Blacklane already operates in New York alongside several dozen other US cities. The acquisition signals Uber's commitment to expanding beyond standard ride-hailing into premium transportation services, potentially reshaping the luxury mobility landscape.
