Kian Capital Partners has partnered with Allen Supply, a Michigan distributor of commercial doors and hardware, to form a multi-regional distribution platform. Allen Supply has since completed the add-on acquisition of TAP Industries, a distributor of commercial doors, frames and hardware headquartered in Jackson, Tennessee. Kian is a lower-middle-market firm with $1.1 billion of capital under management, investing in founder- and owner-operated businesses in essential services and value-added distribution.

Allen Supply was founded in 1950 and operates from facilities in Saginaw and Traverse City, Michigan. It distributes commercial Division 8 metal and architectural wood doors, commercial hardware, and residential doors and hardware, mainly to the healthcare and education end-markets. The business performs fabrication, cutting and processing of raw materials in-house at its warehouses. TAP Industries, founded in 1983, distributes Division 8 commercial doors, frames and hardware, along with Division 10 toilet partitions and bath accessories. Its customers include general contractors building schools, manufacturing facilities and health clinics in Tennessee and across the Central US.

TAP president Bill Killen will continue with the business. The platform plans to grow organically and through M&A, seeking partnerships with commercial door and hardware distributors across the Midwest and Central US. Kian also plans to back expansion into adjacent product categories and a broader service offering.

Kian partner Matt Levenson said the U.S. door, hardware and access control market is highly fragmented yet dynamic, driven by aging infrastructure, rising construction and renovation activity and an increased focus on security. Golden Circle Investment Banking advised Allen Supply, Carnegie Point advised TAP Industries, and Robinson Bradshaw served as legal counsel to Kian.
