Swiss Life plans to cut around 600 jobs by the end of 2028 to boost efficiency and profitability. The reduction will occur mainly through natural attrition, with about half of the cuts in Switzerland and the other half in its international asset-management operations. At the end of 2025, the Zurich-based insurer had roughly 11,000 full-time positions and 17,000 advisors worldwide.

The company expects around 100 redundancies by the end of 2026. Swiss Life is halfway through a three-year efficiency plan launched at the end of 2024, aiming to expand profitably beyond 2027. CEO Matthias Aellig said digitization will help capture market opportunities.

The insurer also launched a new 250 million Swiss franc share buyback, following a completed 750 million-franc program in May 2025. In the first half of 2026, net profit rose to 643 million francs from 585 million francs a year earlier, gross written premiums increased 1.8% to 12.33 billion francs, and the insurance service result grew to 691 million francs from 659 million francs.
