Filmmaker Rian Johnson, known for *Knives Out* and *Star Wars: The Last Jedi*, has launched Chromagraph Camera, an iPhone app that has quickly climbed to No. 1 in the U.S. App Store’s Photo & Video category. Developed with cinematographer Steve Yedlin and programmer Eric Cameron, the app applies film-grade image processing techniques to smartphone photography. Johnson’s announcement on X garnered six million views in a day, with users sharing processed photos that attract thousands of likes.
The app shoots RAW images and applies distinctive color, contrast, grain, and halation effects—soft glows around bright areas—adjustable via intuitive controls. Original RAW files are preserved, allowing non-destructive edits. Photos can be exported as JPEG or HEIC, with an option to auto-save to the photo library.
Priced at $12.99, Chromagraph requires iOS 17 or later and represents a unique fusion of cinematic artistry and mobile technology.
