Refurbished iPhone 16e Sells for $419, Undercuts 17e

Apple has added the iPhone 16e to its U.S. Certified Refurbished catalog, offering a 128‑GB model for $419. The device launched in February 2025 and was discontinued when the iPhone 17e arrived, making this the first time the older model is sold at a discount. Buyers get a fully unlocked phone with a one‑year warranty.

Higher‑capacity units sell for $509 (256 GB) and $679 (512 GB) and come in black or white. Compared with the current entry‑level iPhone 17e, the refurbished 16e saves $180 but lacks MagSafe charging, uses a slower C1 modem instead of C1X, ships with the older A18 chip and retains the first‑generation Ceramic Shield glass.

Apple refurbishes returned or repaired devices by replacing batteries, outer shells and cables, then subjects them to the same testing regimen as new phones. The result is a device indistinguishable from brand‑new hardware, eligible for any carrier and covered by the standard one‑year warranty with optional AppleCare+. The pricing gives budget‑conscious shoppers a viable alternative to the 17e.

The move follows Apple’s broader strategy of expanding refurbished inventory after recent price hikes on Macs and iPads. By reintroducing a discontinued flagship at a lower tier, Apple taps into demand for premium hardware without the premium price tag, potentially boosting sales volume while clearing older stock.
