Meta officially launched subscription plans for its core apps today, marking a significant shift toward monetizing services that have been free for over a decade. The company rolled out Instagram Plus, Facebook Plus, and WhatsApp Plus globally, with individual app pricing starting at $2.99 to $3.99 monthly.

Instagram Plus subscribers gain story rewatch analytics, unlimited audience lists beyond Close Friends, weekly story spotlighting, Super Heart reactions, custom app icons, and extended story duration beyond 24 hours. The plan also enables private story previewing and direct-to-profile posting without feed distribution. Facebook Plus mirrors these features while WhatsApp Plus focuses on customization like themes, ringtones, and premium stickers.

Under the unified Meta One branding, the company introduced AI-focused tiers: Meta One Plus at $7.99/month and Premium at $19.99/month for enhanced AI capabilities. Business users can access Meta One Essential ($14.99) or Advanced ($49.99) plans with verified badges, advanced analytics, and search optimization tools. Testing begins in Singapore, Guatemala, and Bolivia for AI plans, with business features rolling out in Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Thailand, and Bangladesh.

Head of Product Naomi Gleit positioned these subscriptions as foundational rather than comprehensive, suggesting Meta views paid features as supplementary revenue alongside advertising. The move reflects broader industry pressure to diversify income streams while maintaining user growth across its massive platform ecosystem.
