This upgrade replaces the previous slideshow-style overviews with dynamic visuals powered by Gemini 3, Nano Banana Pro, and Veo 3 models. Google positions the feature as a way to help users better learn and engage with their topics through visual storytelling.

Gemini acts as a creative director, making hundreds of structural and stylistic decisions to craft the best narrative from your sources. The AI determines optimal visual style, format, and narrative flow while refining its own work for consistency. This represents a significant evolution from the basic slideshow presentations NotebookLM previously generated.

The feature is available to Google AI Ultra subscribers over 18 in English, with a daily limit of 20 overviews. Users can access Cinematic Video Overviews through both web and mobile platforms, with the NotebookLM app available on the App Store for iPhone and iPad. This positions NotebookLM as a more powerful research visualization tool, though the subscription requirement may limit its accessibility.
