Apple Vision Pro Architect Mike Rockwell Mulls Exit Amid Siri Overhaul

Mike Rockwell, the Apple executive who led Vision Pro development, is considering leaving the company or transitioning to an advisory role as early as next year, according to Bloomberg. The Siri rebuild leader has reportedly grown frustrated with reporting to software chief Craig Federighi and seeks a broader mandate than his current position allows.

Rockwell was once positioned for a CTO-like role overseeing Apple's product and AI roadmap, with head-worn devices expected to anchor Apple's post-iPhone strategy. However, Vision Pro's struggles in the mainstream market—driven by its $3,499 price tag and physical bulk—have dimmed those prospects. While Apple continues developing smart glasses and other wearables, Rockwell's trajectory has become less certain.

He assumed Siri leadership in March 2025 after Tim Cook reassigned the voice assistant from John Giannandrea's team. Bloomberg reports Rockwell is unlikely to depart before completing the Siri overhaul, slated for iOS 27. His potential exit comes as CEO Tim Cook prepares to hand over leadership to John Ternus in September, with several other senior executives—including Deirdre O'Brien and long-tenured figures like Eddy Cue—also weighing their futures.
