Apple Trains Siri Engineers on AI Coding

Apple is sending a squad of fewer than 200 engineers from its Siri team to a multi‑week bootcamp that teaches coding with AI assistants. The move follows a push inside the company to keep pace with rapid changes in software development tools. A focus is on mastering tools like Anthropic’s Claude Code and OpenAI’s Codex.

Apple’s decision signals a response to recent setbacks in its AI strategy, including the departure of former AI chief John Giannandrea and the appointment of Amar Subramanya as VP of AI. It also comes as the company prepares for WWDC26, where a refreshed, Gemini‑powered Siri is expected to debut. The bootcamp will help developers integrate cutting‑edge assistants into the voice platform.

Inside the bootcamp, roughly 60 developers will focus on coding, while another 60 will monitor Siri’s performance and safety compliance. The training aims to bridge gaps left by the rapid rise of AI‑assisted coding, which has already prompted some Apple teams to allocate sizable budgets for tools like Claude Code. This shift reflects a broader industry trend toward AI‑augmented development.

By re‑equipping its core developers, Apple seeks to solidify Siri’s competitive edge and reduce reliance on external AI models. The initiative also underscores the company’s commitment to internal talent development amid a tech ecosystem that increasingly values rapid AI integration. As the bootcamp concludes, developers will return ready to push Siri’s capabilities beyond current limits.
