Apple rolled out watchOS 26.5 today, marking the fifth major refresh to the watchOS 26 platform that debuted last September. The update arrives just six weeks after watchOS 26.4 and can be fetched free through the Apple Watch app on an iPhone running iOS 26.5. Installation requires the watch to sit on a charger with at least a 50 % charge.

Among the new features, the Pride Luminance watch face joins the Face Gallery, displaying a constantly shifting spectrum that reacts to ambient light. Apple also patched two bugs: Messages on watches paired with dual‑SIM iPhones now default to iMessage instead of SMS, and Workout‑app audio alerts fire reliably even when the phone is out of range. It can be set as default.

The fixes address complaints that surfaced after the 26.4 release, improving reliability for users who rely on messaging and fitness tracking. With the update live, existing Apple Watch owners can refresh their devices without cost, while the fresh face adds a visible nod to LGBTQ+ visibility in the ecosystem. Apple continues to iterate rapidly on its wearable OS.
