WhatsApp has announced a series of security and verification updates. Two-step verification is transitioning from a six-digit PIN to a full password, allowing alphanumeric characters and special symbols for stronger protection against guessing. Additionally, the platform is introducing enhanced call information; when receiving calls from unknown numbers, users will see details such as country origin or shared group memberships to help identify potential scams.

This call feature is initially rolling out to Android users. Complementing these changes, WhatsApp is promoting the use of passkeys, which utilize biometric data like fingerprints or facial recognition for account access. The company reports over a billion users have already adopted passkeys, and users can now register multiple passkeys across Android and iOS devices via the Settings menu.

These updates aim to provide users with more control and security within the messaging platform.
