There hasn't been much innovation in Micro SD cards, but the standard remains dominant in cameras, handheld consoles, and accessories needing external storage. I use a dozen or so Micro SD cards across security cameras, action cameras, digital music players, hobbyist SBCs like the Pi 4 and Pi 5, and two handheld consoles. Most are A2 class cards from 64GB to 512GB, but I wanted higher storage for my DJI Osmo Pocket 4P and Pocket 4.

That's where Lexar comes in. The Silver Plus range debuted at the end of April 2026, offering storage from 128GB to 2TB—the model I'm testing. I used Lexar's SO-DIMM memory modules and internal SSDs before, so I was interested in the 2TB Micro SD card.

After three months of use involving dozens of hours of 4K footage from the Osmo Pocket 4P and hundreds of photos from the OM-D E-M1 Mark III, the Silver Plus is a standout. The 2TB model retails for well over $500, but the 1TB model is $239—the sweet spot for extending camera or handheld console storage. There's also a 128GB variant at $49 and a 256GB model at $74.

The Silver Plus is a V30 card, guaranteeing at least 30MB/s sustained writes for video, with U3, A2, and UHS-I interface. It's rugged: IPX7 water-resistant, shockproof, x-ray-proof, magnetic-proof, and vibration-resistant, with a limited lifetime warranty. The 2TB model truly shines in video footage—I shot 4K120 and 8K30 without bottleneck, achieving close to 255MB/s reads and 189MB/s writes on Windows.

It's great for drones or handheld gimbals like the Osmo Pocket 4P. While SD cards don't match external SSDs in speed, they're far more portable. For professionals shooting outdoors or anyone wanting the best Micro SD card for camera or handheld console use, the Silver Plus is an easy recommendation.
