Qualcomm rolled out the Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 (SM6850) and Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 (SM4850), extending its Gen 5 platform into entry‑level and mid‑range phones. Both chips promise smoother UI, longer battery life and better gaming, with the 6 Gen 5 adding Adaptive Performance Engine 4.0 and FPS 3.0 for steadier frame rates.

The 6 Gen 5 upgrades to a four‑core CPU up to 2.6 GHz and a GPU that’s 21% faster, while power efficiency improves by 8%. It retains a 4 nm process, supports LPDDR5‑3000 memory, and can drive 1080p+ displays at 144 Hz. Snapdragon Smooth Motion UI claims 20% faster app launches and 18% less stutter than its Gen 4 predecessor.

In the 4 Gen 5, the Adreno GPU jumps 77% over the previous model, enabling 90 fps gaming. CPU clocks rise to 2.4 GHz and power savings hit 10%, though RAM support drops to LPDDR4X‑2133. Connectivity sees 5G speeds up to 2.8 Gbps and Dual SIM Dual Active, while Wi‑Fi stays on Wi‑Fi 5 and Bluetooth moves to 5.1 with aptX Adaptive. Honor, Oppo, Realme and Redmi will ship devices later this year.
