Samsung Display's Tandem OLED Laptop Panels Earn VESA Certification

Samsung Display has commenced full-scale supply of tandem OLED panels for laptops, achieving VESA DisplayHDR True Black 1400 certification. This new standard requires displays to maintain black levels below 0.0005 nits and reach a peak brightness of 1,400 nits. Samsung is collaborating with global PC manufacturers to elevate the premium laptop OLED market with enhanced brightness.

The True Black 1400 certification represents a 40% increase in peak brightness requirement over the previous True Black 1000 tier. Samsung's tandem OLED panels, stacking two emissive layers, can reach up to 1,600 nits at the panel level, significantly surpassing conventional single-stack OLEDs and extending panel lifespan. The Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i Aura Edition was among the first devices to earn this certification.

Other manufacturers like ASUS, Dell Technologies, and MSI are slated to introduce True Black 1400 certified products starting from the second half of this year. Samsung Display attributes the panel's performance to its tandem architecture and advanced organic materials. The company will showcase these panels at K-Display 2026 in Seoul.
