Xiaomi is preparing a smaller variant of its Redmi Pad 2, according to new database listings. The Redmi Pad 2 9.7-inch has appeared in the GSMA's IMEI database with three model numbers, confirming plans for a more compact tablet. This new version will feature a 9.7-inch touchscreen, down from the original 11-inch display.

While full specifications remain unknown, the device is expected to launch across China, India, and other global markets. The original Redmi Pad 2 launched last June with a 1600x2560 resolution display, 90Hz refresh rate, and MediaTek Helio G100 Ultra processor. It also included options for 4/6/8GB RAM and 128/256GB storage.

The move to create a smaller tablet variant follows a common industry pattern of offering multiple screen sizes within a product line. This strategy allows Xiaomi to appeal to different user preferences and use cases, from media consumption to portability. The 9.7-inch size sits between typical tablet and large smartphone dimensions.
