A newly surfaced patent for the alleged Huawei Mate XT2 tri-fold smartphone hints at a new design and folding mechanism. The patent images, shared by tipster Ice Universe on X, suggest the device could adopt an inward-folding design, replacing the Z-shaped mechanism used on the Mate XT and Mate XTs.

The folding mechanism appears similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Trifold, though it works differently. Based on the patent, the Mate XT2 will offer a cover display alongside a large flexible inner screen, unlike its predecessors. Images reveal a circular camera module on the middle panel, with the cover display on the right panel. The left panel folds inward first, followed by the right panel.

Rumored specifications include the Kirin 9050 Pro chipset and a battery larger than 6,000mAh. The device is also expected to feature a triple rear camera setup similar to the Huawei Mate X7.
