Google began rolling out the stable Android 17 update to eligible Pixel devices, starting with Pixel 6 and newer models. The rollout follows a blog post confirming that the codebase is now public on AOSP, paving the way for other manufacturers to adopt the version through 2026. Early adopters will see the new App Bubbles feature, turning any app into a floating window.

Foldable phones and large‑screen devices gain a bubble bar at the bottom for managing multiple bubbles, while Android 17 introduces a 50/50 split‑screen layout that places a game on one side and a dynamic gamepad on the other. Screen Recording now supports Screen Reactions, letting users capture selfie video of their responses as they record the screen. Location permissions also get a one‑time precise option and revamped dialogs.

Security upgrades include a biometric‑locked “Mark as lost” function in Find Hub, selective contact sharing, and enhancements to Live Threat Detection and Advanced Protection mode. An app memory limit curtails RAM consumption, and the dark theme expands with an option to hide app names on the Home screen. Android 17 therefore tightens privacy, performance, and UI consistency across the Pixel lineup.
