Apple has significantly expanded its manufacturing footprint in India, with 25% of all new iPhones now produced there. According to Bloomberg News, 55 million iPhones were manufactured in India last year, marking a substantial increase from 36 million units in 2024. This shift represents a major transformation in Apple's global supply chain strategy.

India's emergence as a key iPhone manufacturing hub began in 2017 with the iPhone SE, expanding to include the iPhone 6s the following year. Initially, Apple sought to avoid India's high import fees on Chinese-made goods, but the escalating US-China trade war forced Cupertino to diversify its manufacturing locations. Companies like Foxconn, Tata Electronics, and Pegatron now assemble all major iPhone models in India shortly after their announcements.

The iPhone 15 marked a significant milestone as the first model assembled in India and available locally from launch day. Industry reports suggest all iPhone 17 series devices sold in the US market will be assembled in India, with rumors indicating Apple may even begin manufacturing iPhone chips domestically. This manufacturing shift underscores India's growing importance as Apple's key production hub for the iPhone.
