Xiaomi is expanding its 17 smartphone series with the new 17T and 17T Pro models, bringing premium features to midrange territory. Unlike typical midrange devices, these phones include 5x optical zoom telephoto cameras, a feature rarely found outside flagship devices. This positions Xiaomi to challenge competitors by offering advanced photography capabilities at accessible price points.

The 17T Pro boasts a 6.83-inch 1.5K AMOLED display with 144Hz refresh rates and 3,500-nit brightness. Both models feature 50MP main cameras with optical image stabilization, though only the Pro includes a Leica lens. Powering these devices are MediaTek's Dimensity 9500 (Pro) and 8500-Ultra processors, paired with substantial silicon-carbon batteries supporting 100W fast charging.

Xiaomi prices the 17T Pro at £799 ($1,070) and the standard 17T at £650 ($871), with availability confirmed for UK and Europe but not yet for the US. The phones introduce Leica's Live Moment feature, competing directly with Apple's Live Photos. This release continues Xiaomi's strategy of bringing premium camera technology to more affordable segments of the market.
