Heart Aerospace's X1 demonstrator took off from Plattsburgh International Airport in Upstate New York and flew for 27 minutes, climbing to 1,100 feet on batteries alone. The success has drawn praise from executives at United Airlines and Air Canada, who see potential for electric planes in their fleets. Heart plans to follow the X1 with the ES‑30, a fixed‑wing 30‑seat hybrid designed for regional airports.

The company targets an all‑electric range of 125 miles, rising to 500 miles with the hybrid engine, and emphasizes lower maintenance and higher reliability as key cost drivers. The ES‑30 is slated to enter service by 2031, a date many view as ambitious.

Heart will compete with other aviation startups such as Boom Supersonic, Harbour Air, Zero Avia, and Rolls‑Royce. The future of electric flight hinges on advances in battery density and weight.
